As I mentioned before, I am currently studying Fashion and Textile technologies at Saxion university in Enschede. For our first project this quarter we had the project Into the Future. The goal of this project was how we could improve the future of Fashion and we also explored how we want OUR future in Fashion to look like.

The fashion industry is the second most polluting industry in the world and the fact of sustainability became more and more important over the past couple years. For example the Rana Plaza incident in 2013 triggered a lot of people and made them think about how we could improve the future of the fashion industry.

When talking about this project with my fellow students, I really liked the idea of up cycling old garment and turning them into something beautiful again. One student in the other class created a beautiful garment and i asked her if I could feature it here on my blog . My fellow student, Senedu Wilkens, created a Denim skirt made out of old denim jeans etc.

The waistband and the pockets of the skirt is taken from a old pair of jeans. This gives the design a general structure and when creating more garments like this the waistband is a good help tool for sizing etc. But what stands out for me is the front part of the skirt. little pieces of denim are seen together to create a patchwork look of the garment. This piece is a really trendy fashion piece and fits perfectly with all distressed jeans looks seen in many Fashion magazines. For someone who loves following trends but doesn't want to pay hundreds of euros for a fashion piece like this, doing it yourself can really be a cost efficient factor. It takes time but the end result will pay off all the work you put into. You can style it with a nice shirt or a oversized pullover tucked into the skirt with some nice ankle boots !

Special thanks to Senedu for creating this beautiful garment and letting me show it on my blog!
