Me and my uni friends spend a lot of time searching clothing websites for new cool stuff we can all spend our money on while sitting in the library. But since we are studying fashion and textiles we also talk a lot about sewing our own stuff because this study gives us the opportunity to make our own cool fashion pieces.
So for the first quarter project the task was to create a product- any product that we would like or we see future developments in. So my good friend Jette decided to create a Jacket made out of old Jeans - and i should have the style and silhouette of a kimono.
Her vision was to create a jacket hat is sustainable and can be recycled into new yarn to create new clothing - so important was tat the kimono does not have a lot of buttons and accessoires because when recycling old fabric you have to shred clothing but before shredding the clothing you have to get rid of all the buttons and metal rivets etc.
So her plan was to create this kimono without any buttons attached.

This Image above shows the front panel of the jacket - the final product is not finished because creating the garment would have taken a long time and as you may know in this study we are always on a time crunch but you can see what the vision is looking like.
Construction

So as you can see the front panel has a big pocket made out of little jeans back pockets with gives the jacket a cool and unique look - and as I already mentioned in my post before Patchwork denim is an upcoming trend for 2019 !
And when talking with Jette ( the designer) about the construction she said that it was fairly easy to do even though she does not have a lot of experience with sewing - so for all of you out there thinking you can not do it take this post as inspiration for your new years resolution.
Sewing clothing is not that hard and it can be a lot of fun to see the finished product !
So to end this I want to thank Jette for giving me the opportunity to talk about this awesome jacket - you did a great job and I am so glad that I met you in this study !
